chilli is rated in Scoville units. The bell
peppers (capsicum) and pimento have a Scoville unit ranging between 0-100 while
the Scoville scale for habanero and Scotch bonnet is 1,00,000-3,50,000.
The
hottest chili in the world is the Naga jolokia which is approximately 10,55,000
in the Scoville Scale. The Naga jolokia or the ghost pepper is found in Tezpur
town of Assam, India.

was used in Mexico as early as 7000 BC. The chilli was brought to rest of the
world by Christopher Columbus.
